FURRY FEATHER CALATHEA/ CALATHEA RUFIBARBA

Common Name / Latin Name

ALUMINIUM PLANT/ PILEA CADIEREI

Calathea rufibarba is a flowering plant in the Marantaceae family native to Brazil. The plant's common name is due to its fuzzy, feather-like leaf texture, which is unusual in its genus. The leaves feel like velvet to the touch. It also features long slender deep green leaves with rippled edges and burgundy undersides. It is a tall growing calathea.. Produces little yellow flowers at the foot of the stems when mature and happy. Position - Position in a shady spot with indirect sunlight. Mist regularly if air humidity is low. Water – Calatheas like to have moist soil, but they do not want lots of water, as it can drown them. When you water a Calathea plant, do not water it so much that the plant ends up sitting in standing water, ensure it drains away. Think little and often as a watering policy Tips – Apply a slow release fertiliser yearly and liquid feed every three months for vibrant healthy foliage. Remove the old leaves for a quick tidy up if they start to brown. Safety - Non-Toxic to dogs and cats, safe for them to be around. Difficulty - Medium
